Verse of the Day
“My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.”
Proverbs 4:20
Have you ever tried speaking to someone who was nearby but not truly listening? They could hear your voice, but their attention was somewhere else. Their ears were open, yet their heart was not engaged.
To incline your ears means turning toward the speaker with focus, humility, and readiness to respond. It goes beyond physically turning your ears towards but turning your heart towards.
God’s Word demands that kind of attention.
Many voices compete for your ears every day. Opinions, entertainment, conversations, social media, fear, ambition, and personal desires all try to shape what you believe. Some voices are loud. Others are repeated so often. In the middle of all that noise, Scripture calls you to lean toward the voice of God.
God’s words bring life to those who find them and healing to the whole body. His Word is not empty information. It carries truth, direction, correction, comfort, and wisdom. It teaches you how to live and guards you from paths that slowly lead away from Him.
Jesus expressed this same truth in : “The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” This means you should not approach Scripture casually. When you open the Bible, you are not merely reading ancient words. You are receiving truth that God uses to awaken, strengthen, correct, and sustain your spiritual life.

God’s Word is the substance in which life consists. says that by faith the worlds were framed by the Word of God. Simon Peter understood this when he said in , “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life”
The Word of God is so important that we need it daily. A part of the Lord’s prayer reads: “Give us this day our daily bread”. The bread there is not talking about food. It is the Word.
Inclining your ears means that you must do whatever it takes to hear God. Tune out all forms of distractions and tune in to the spring of living water.
