Romans 12:1-2Verse of the Day
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”Romans 12:2
Romans 12 begins with a surprising picture of sacrifices. A sacrifice was usually placed on an altar and completely given over. It was not partly offered and partly kept back. Once it was presented, the sacrifice belonged to God. Paul tells believers to offer their bodies as a living sacrifice. A living sacrifice is different because it continues to live after it has been placed on the altar. This means surrender is not a one-time moment. It is a daily choice. Each day, you willingly place your thoughts, desires, habits, plans, words, relationships, and actions before God.
You may have sincerely surrendered your life to Christ years ago, but today still brings new choices. Will you use your body in a way that honours Him? Will you speak in a way that reflects Him? Will you obey when obedience is inconvenient? Will you give Him control of the parts of your life you would rather manage yourself?
You are not to copy the behaviour and customs of this world. You live in the world, but you do not belong to its system. The world has patterns for how people should think, speak, dress, pursue pleasure, handle relationships, define success, and respond to authority. Some of those patterns are clearly sinful. Others appear harmless but slowly weaken your hunger for God.
The pressure to conform is constant. It can come through music, movies, social media, fashion, friendships, relationships, and the values repeated around you. The world often presents selfishness as freedom, compromise as wisdom, and disobedience as self-expression. When you hear the same message often enough, it can begin to feel normal. But you must resist that pressure by being transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Reflection
What has been shaping your thinking lately? Choose one source of worldly influence to limit today, and replace it with Scripture, prayer, or time with faithful believers. Renewing your mind is not passive. It is the daily choice to let God’s truth have the strongest voice.

Think of a household drain. Over time, small pieces of debris collect inside it. At first, the water still flows, so the buildup may not seem serious. Eventually, however, the flow becomes slow or blocked. The drain needs to be opened and cleaned so that water can pass through freely again.
Your mind takes in a steady stream of information every day. Some of it is useful. Some of it is false, impure, fearful, proud, or contrary to Scripture. Even when you do not deliberately choose those ideas, they can settle into your thinking. Without regular renewal, worldly assumptions may begin to influence your choices without you noticing.
Renewal must be intentional. You cannot feed your mind constantly on the world’s messages and expect your thoughts to remain unchanged. You must make room for God’s voice. This may mean turning off something that keeps filling your mind with temptation. It may mean replacing anxious thoughts with Scripture. It may mean asking a mature believer to challenge an attitude you have accepted as normal.
As your mind is renewed, your life begins to change. Paul says you will learn to know God’s will and recognise what is good, pleasing, and perfect. Spiritual maturity develops as your thinking comes under the influence of Christ. You begin to see people, decisions, success, suffering, and temptation differently.
Scripture says, “We understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ” in 1 Corinthians 2:16. This means that through the Holy Spirit, you have been given the ability to understand and receive God’s truth. Your responsibility is to let that truth shape the way you think.
A renewed mind leads to a surrendered life. A surrendered life becomes an act of worship. Today, place yourself before God again. Let Him correct what is false, clean out what has collected, and shape your thoughts according to Christ.
“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”Colossians 2:6-10
