Matthew 6:19-21Verse of the Day
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)
A man in his late 60s who had just retired. He spent all his life focusing on his job. He had risen to the zenith of his career at the expense of his family. His goal was to retire and travel the world. By this time, his wife and kids had left him, but he didn’t mind. At least he could afford to enjoy the rest of his life.
Then tragedy struck. An economic crash wiped everything out. His savings. His pension. His investments. All gone. The news was too much for him. He went into shock and died shortly after.
His heart did not break because he had nothing. It broke because what he lived for was gone.
Our hearts naturally move toward what we value most. Wealth. Possessions. Status. Relationships. The heart follows its treasure, just as a sunflower follows the sun.
What do you spend your time on? What do you spend your money on? What occupies your thoughts?
That is where your treasure is.
Choose to store up treasure in eternal things. Use your resources for good works. Be generous with your time, money, skills, and knowledge. Invest in the things of God.
Where is your treasure?
