1 Kings 19:11-13Verse of the Day
“11 “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?””1 Kings 19:11-13 (NKJV)
Hearing from God is a beautiful experience that every child of God should desire daily. The peace and assurance that come from knowing God’s will are hard to put into words. It is one of our greatest advantages as His children.
Yet many believers struggle to recognise God’s voice. Life is noisy. Distractions are many. Sometimes the noise is so loud that the still, small voice of the Father is drowned out. Others expect God to speak only through dramatic signs, thunder, fire, or powerful displays. In doing so, they miss His quiet nudgings, or worse, get carried away by voices that are not His.
God was not in the wind. He was not in the earthquake. He was not in the fire. He came in a gentle whisper.
God is our Father, and He desires to speak with us. He wants to lead and guide you as much as you desire His leadership. Often, He does this by whispering to your spirit in the gentlest way.
Don’t ignore the still, small voice. Learn to quiet your heart and listen. That whisper may be the direction you have been waiting for.
