Philippians 3:13-14Verse of the Day
“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT)
The past can distract us in two ways.
First, through failure. Regret, mistakes, missed opportunities, and wrong choices can weigh heavily. If we are not careful, they can define how we see ourselves and limit how we move forward.
Second, through success. Past victories, accomplishments, and good seasons can also hold us back. We may try to relive them or depend on them instead of growing into what God has next.
We can take lessons from Paul here. Despite all he had achieved as a disciple of Jesus, he didn’t dwell on them. He’s constantly looking forward to what’s next. He’s focused on what lies ahead so that he can run the race to the end.
An athlete who keeps looking back during a race will stumble and not finish. Keep running your race. Learn from your past, but keep it moving. What lies ahead is bigger and greater. The best version of you is forward!
