John 8:31-38Verse of the Day
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”John 8:31-38 (NKJV)
Reading: John 8:31–38
When Jesus made this statement, His listeners pushed back. They said, “We are descendants of Abraham. We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean by saying we will be set free?” Their response revealed a common misunderstanding of freedom.
Jesus explained that freedom is not merely about external circumstances. Anyone who sins, He said, is a slave to sin. Paul captured this struggle clearly in Romans 7:15 when he wrote, “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” This is the bondage many live with, wanting to do right but feeling powerless to do so.
Jesus then took it further. True freedom is tied to sonship. Slaves do not remain in the house forever, but sons do. And if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.
Putting it all together, Jesus, the Son, is also the Word made flesh, and the Truth revealed. Once we catch a revelation of the Truth, He sets us free from sin and everything that comes with it.
I pray that you receive a fresh revelation of the Truth today, and that it brings you into total freedom. Amen.
