Luke 12:40Verse of the Day
““You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.””Luke 12:40 (NKJV)
Back in school, some lecturers would sometimes walk in unannounced and do a graded assessment without prior notice. Some other time, we'd get to know about it in a few hours. Whenever that happened, you could visibly see the pandemonium that would ensue. From those trying to ‘cram’ whatever they could from the lecture notes to those frantically calling their mates who were not in class to begin to make their way down.
Those moments taught me something simple: readiness is not about knowing the exact time; it’s about living in a constant state of preparation.
That’s what Jesus is getting at here. He doesn’t tell us to be ready sometimes or when it feels urgent. He says to be ready at all times. Not because we should live in fear, but because readiness reflects alignment. It means our hearts, choices, and priorities are already set in the right direction.
Many people delay obedience, growth, or surrender because they assume they’ll have a clear warning or a perfect moment. But God often moves outside our schedules. He will come when we least expect it, not to catch us off guard, but to reveal what we’ve truly been living for.
The call is for us to live ready today, as if Jesus were coming today. So that when the day finally arrives, it will meet you ready.
